Fizzer
These are surprise items that are "fizzed" in warm water to reveal a jewelry item. These jewelry pieces are .925 Sterling Silver with a triple rhodium plating to help protect the silver from tarnishing.
What is rhodium plating?
Sterling silver needs to be stored away from open air to protect from tarnishing. The .925 sterling silver items should be stored in a air tight container (zip-close bag) to keep humidity and are out. To help protect your sterling silver jewelry items many are protected with a triple rhodium plated layer.
How are pearls formed and how do they get their color?
Pearls are formed when something irritating is caught in the mantle of the oyster (or mussel). When this happens the oyster secretes nacre to cover the irritant. This nacre is what forms the pearl. After layers and layers have been added, a pearl is created. Naturally formed pearls have beautiful colors such as white, cream, peach, blush and even Gold!
Natural? Cultured?
Although all the pearls we sell are 100% "real pearls" they are referred to as cultured pearls. Oftentimes when we speak of "natural" pearls, those are the ones that are formed in nature without human intervention. Cultured pearls are formed with the help of humans. We like to think of them all being natural, just natural with no human interaction.
Do they get the bright colors naturally?
Unfortunately no, the pearls do not get the brighter variety of colors through nature, color needs to be introduced to the pearl. Dyed pearls come in a large variety of colors and shades within those colors.
Pearl Care
Pearls should be put on last and taken off first. This means you should completely get ready, then put your pearls on. When you are done for the day, take them off first and then continue your nighttime routine. Take them off before physical activity (avoid sweat) and before swimming (pool and ocean). Cleaning is simple and should be done in a small bowl of water mixed with a small amount of dishwashing detergent or chemical free shampoo. Put the pearl in the solution for 10-15 seconds, do not leave in there to soak and rinse with room temperature water with no chlorine in it. Then use a soft cloth to wipe the pearl. Leaving pearls in humid room temperature are will help retain their luster.
